Five Manipuri militants arrested in Guwahati
Guwahati, May 2 (UNI) Five militants of Manipur-based outfits were arrested by a joint team of Manipur and Asom police during an early morning swoop here today.
Police said the self-styled ''general secretary'' of the United Nationalist Liberation Front (UNLF), Marjid Singh alias Narang Ban alias Thoubal Iboyama, was arrested from the Noonmati area in Guwahati this morning. A resident of Nagamapal in Imphal West in Manipur, Marjid had been staying at a rented house in the city for the last seven months.
Police seized Rs 47 lakh cash from his possession.
Three militants of the Revolutionary People's Front(RPF) and one belonging to the People's Liberation Army(PLA) were also arrested from a hotel in the Fancy Bazar area of the city.
The arrested ultras were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM).
Earlier this month, four Manipuri rebels belonging to the People's United Liberation Front(PULF) were nabbed by a joint police team from Guwahati on April 11.
