Congress diluting Telangana issue, alleges BJP
Hyderabad, May 2 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today alleged that the Congress Government was diluting the issue of separate Telangana by constituting Regional Development Boards.
Addressing a press conference here, BJP State President B Datattreya said the formation of the boards to address the problem of backwardness amounted to denying separate statehood for Telangana.
The Telangana region would not benefit from the constitution of the boards, he added.
''The formation of boards without adequate powers and finances was only to politically rehabilitate jobless Congress Legislators, who could not be accommodated in the State Cabinet,'' he alleged.
The Board's chairman post was nothing but ''ornamental'', he contended and asked ''why the ruling Congress had not properly implemented the six-point formula, the Presidential Order and the GO 610 to protect the interests of the Telangana region''.
