Condon Bar will serve beer and create awarness about AIDS

Chandigarh, May 2 (UNI) A unique 'Condom Bar', perhaps the first of its kind in the country has been created by CITCO (Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Corporation), with the hope that the Bar which will serve wine and beer alongwith food items will spread the message of AIDS awarness.

Ms Pooja Thakur, AIDS Counsellor and Activist of Chandigarh Network of People living with HIV/AIDS inaugurated this bar at Baithak, Kalagram here today.

" AIDS is a major problem confronting the country, i just hope that through this bar we will be able to spread the message of 'safe sex' ", Ms Thakur said while performing the inaugural ceremony.

CITCO has been fulfilling its social obligations and responsibilities in the larger interest of society by discharging its normal functions in the hospitality and tourism sector and the Condon Bar is one of its unique ventures..

The added attraction to the already existing tourism infrastructure of CITCO would include food and beverages to be provided at the ethnic Punjabi styled 'Rasoi' (kitchen) 'Da Vehra'.

The logo of the Condom Bar has been specially designed in such a manner that it incorporates the international red ribbon visual symbol which is often used for AIDS awareness and prevention.

The Condom Bar will serve normal beverages like liquor, beer and wine alongwith food but it will be in a special decor and environment which shall aesthetically convey the strong message that "condom is the most important practical tool to prevent transmission of HIV and STI".

CITCO has also joined hands with agencies and NGOs involved with AIDS and HIV including the AIDS Control Society of Chandigarh to create AIDS awareness messages which will be conveyed through specially designed laminates as table tops, while the customers are enjoying at the bar.

According to CITCO MD Jasbir Singh Bir souvenirs have been made for display in the bar and for purchase by the customers/patrons to contribute meaningfully to mitigate and create more awareness about HIV/AIDS. Souvenirs like T- shirts, caps, mugs, coasters etc would be available for sale at reasonable rates at the bar and the monetary realisation thereof shall be utilized for creating more awareness and curbing this disease jointly with the AIDS Control Society of Chandigarh.

At the bar some sponsored brands of condoms will be available free of cost in an attractive ambience and comfortable environment.

Donation box shall also be kept at the condom bar for the patrons who would like to give monetary contribution towards the prevention and awareness about HIV/AIDS.
