Case against inmates who took over prison
Shahdol, MP, May 2 (UNI) A case has been registered by the jail administration against 17 inmates who briefly assumed control of the District Jail.
District Magistrate Jagdeesh Sharma ordered a probe. Police said that after a preliminary inquiry the inmates were charged with different offences. Prime accused Narendra Shukla and Narendra Kaul were being shifted to the Central Jail.
''A dispute aggravated after constables protested against Shukla and Kaul assaulting Constable Dinesh Singh on Monday,'' said Prison Superintendent D K Narjawe.
Besides bolting the main gate from within, the inmates took three guards hostage. Kaul issued a warning from Barrack Number 5 that inmates would immolate themselves if he was beaten. Two barracks have been vacated.
