ACCI flays Centre's decision
Itanagar, May 02 (UNI) The Arunachal Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) along with the North Lakhimpur and Tezpur units in Asom have protested against the Centre's decision to hand over the NH 52 from the BRO to Asom PWD.
However in 2002, Rajya Sabha MP from Arunachal Nabam Rebia, the then member of steering committee on transport&tourism took up the matter with the Centre and handed over the 311 km NH from Asom PWD to Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
The highway with innumerable potholes, submerged stretches, damaged culverts and ramshackled bridges had become difficult for the commuters following the failure of Asom PWD in maintaining it.
'' A lot of accidents have occured on the road and hence we have urged the Centre to hand it over to BRO,'' the ACCI president said.
However, it was handed over to BRO only after the direct interference of the PMO.
The traffic ability of NH 52 has been improved in five years following strengthening, widening and reducing accidents.
Meanwhile, Lok Sabha MP Kiren Rijiju in a communique here today expressed concern over the proposed move of the Centre terming it as 'totally uncalled for' and said he would convene a meeting of the MPs of Arunachal and Asom with the Prime Minister in this regard.
