3 Drown in Digha
Digha May 02 (UNI) The full moon tide in Digha sea claimed three lives, including that of teacher and a student in the last 24 hours, police said.
While the teacher and the student were identified, the third was not.
Prof. Anandadeb Mukharjee, Chairman Digha-Sankarpur Development Authority, said a life saving unit would soon be raised in Digha to help those interested in adventure-tourism.
Mr Prakash Giri(32), a teacher of Srirampur who took his students to Digha on an excursion, went a bit too far inside the sea which was rough since yesterday. Sk. Malek Khan(17), a student of Chengail School in Uluberia, was also carried away into the sea.
Both bodies were later sent to Digha General Hospital.
Meanwhile, the body of a person who had gone to bathe in the sea was recovered in Duttapur in New Digha yesterday.
The Digha Police have started cordoning the bathing ghat areas following these incidents.
Waves as high as 15 feet were lashing the Foreshore road on Buddha Purnima day today.
