Traffic survey in Punjab commences tomorrow

Chandigarh, May 1 (UNI) A 'Total Transport System Study' in Punjab to ascertain goods and passenger traffic flow in the state would commence in 12 districts tomorrow.

The study would be conducted by RITES Ltd, Gurgaon, a central government enterprise. The study is being got conducted by the Planning Commission of India.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesman said that the road traffic survey would be conducted in two rounds. The first round of the survey would start tomorrow and would end on May four.

The second round would be held later during this year.

The first round would last for 48 hours at one stretch and would cover twelve districts--- Amritsar, Bhatinda, Ferozpur, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Mansa, Patiala, Mohali, Sangrur and Muktsar. In all 30 check posts would be set up for noting the flow of traffic on various roads.

However in Mohali the survey would last for 168 hours at one stretch on National Highway-21. The survey in all 12 districts would start at 1400 hours tomorrow.

The Punjab department of economic and statistical organisation had been designated as the Nodal Office for the survey. The Departments of Home Affairs and Justice, Excise and Taxation, Transport, PWD (B&R) will be involved for their support in terms of infrastructure, logistic and manpower required, All the Deputy Commissioners of the concerned districts have been requested to accord their co-operation for the survey. The public too has been requested to cooperate in the survey.
