Students with 40% attendance should not sit for exams: Jaya

Chennai, May 1 (UNI) Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today demanded that Anna University withdraw its order, allowing students to take examinations with just 40 per cent attendance.

Criticising the University for passing the April 19 order, Ms Jayalalithaa, in a statement here, said the order was passed despite opposition by syndicate members and demanded an explanation from the ruling DMK.

Till now, the University was allowing only those who had secured 75 per cent attendance to write the examinations.

But this rule was relaxed this year and students who had secured 40 per cent attendance were allowed to appear for examinations held in April and May, she said, and alleged that the order, relaxing the rule was passed to benefit wards of some senior leaders of the ruling DMK and some IPS officers.

This would affect the quality of eduction in the University, she said and demanded the withdrawal of the order, considering the future interest of the students.
