Jaunpur, May 1 (UNI) Agitated over not getting a ticket to fight the ongoing Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, a ruling Samajwadi Party MLA and sugarcane cooperatives federation president Vinod Kumar Singh today resigned from the party.

Mr Singh is an SP MLA from the Machhlishahr assembly seat here.

''SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav makes hollow promises. The party plays caste politics and is only befooling the masses with its slogan of 'Samajwaad', which is a sham,'' Mr Singh said.

The disgruntled MLA said Mr Yadav is neither the well wisher of Muslims nor of any other community. He only gives priority to Yadavs.

''Now I am campaigning in favour of BSP candidate from the Machhlishahr constituency Subhash Pandey,'' Mr Singh added.
