Sex workers observe May Day with candles

Kolkata, May 1(UNI) May Day was observed in the city but with a difference as sex workers organised a candle light march here at midnight last night to fight for their right as ''workers'' under the aegis of Durbar Mahila Samannay Committee(DMSC).

Speaking to UNI, DMSC spokesperson today said that since the inception of the organisation, DMSC has been fighting for the workers' rights.

'' We believe that sex work is like any other work and we do this for our livelihood,'' she said adding that the Durbar Mahila Samannay Samiti has been fighting for the cause for quite some time.

Around 3,000 sex workers assembled last night in the Sonagachhi red light area and took out processions in various part of the city.
