Meghalaya: Senior HNLC leader shuns violence

Shillong, May 1: A senior leader of banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has laid down his arms before Major General Vinod Nayanar, Commanding Area 101, here, official sources said.

Fullman Syiemlieh alias Bahnah, sergeant of the HNLC, fled from Pyndemsohsaw camp bordering Bangladesh to shun the path of violence, police said today.

The militant deposited two country-made pistols and 26 rounds of 99 mm live ammunition, police added.

Later, the Army handed over the surrendered militant to the state police.
