Sachin to feature in master blaster series of virgin comics

Bangalore, May 1 (UNI) Moving away from cricketdom the Indian master blaster Sachin Tendulkar will soon be a comic book super hero featuring dare devilry and remain an icon among the youth of the country.

Under an agreement with Virgin Comics, Tendulkar will be featured in various escapades and actions featured in comics as 'master blaster'. Come July, the first issue would be out.

Mr Samarjit Choudhry, Senior Vice President of Gotham Entertainment Group which distributed Virgin comics in India and other parts of South, South East Asian and middle east asian countries told UNI that the ''master blaster'' brand was a joint property of both Tendulkar and Virgin Comics.

Master blaster would have India focus and based on Indian stories.

Mr Choudhry said that master blaster would not be restricted only to comics. Games, mobile content and other entertainment avenues would be explored to promote the brand. Virgin commics would also come out with a series on Ramayana called ''Ramayana 3392 AD'' The first issue should be out sometime this month or June, he added.

Virgin Comics are already publishing three major Indian comics including 'Devi' and 'Snake Woman'. Besides it also has exclusive rights for the region for distributing DC and Marvel comics.

He said Comics were seen as the first book of children and there was tremendous scope. The company was currently printing around 150,000 to 170,000 and by the end of October the number was expected to cross around 225,000. As many as 15 titles are released monthly and they included series relating to spiderman, batman, superman, X-man, Hulk.
