RMC to develop BRTS

Rajkot, May 1 (UNI) The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) proposes to develop a ''Blue Corridor'' across the 150 feet ring road here in order to ease the traffic congestion.

Rajkot Mayor Dhansukh Bhanderi today said the project will be completed in three phases at an estimated cost of Rs 203 crore.

In the first phase, the corridor between Gondal Road and Jamnagar Road will be completed. The second phase will cover Jamnagar Road to Morbi Road, while the third phase will be between Morbi Road to Gondal Road. The project is scheduled to be comnpleted by 2012.

The route, covering 29 kms, will have passenger-friendly buses plying on dedicated corridors.

The mayor said that, initially, a rail system had been considered but, then, it was realised that a BRTS can provide comparable transit performance at a much lower cost.
