Respite from heat continues, mercury drops to 39 Degree C

New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) For the second consecutive day, Delhiites today continued to experience relief from last week's heat wave with cool thunderstorms bringing mercury down further to 39 dDegrees Celsius.

The sharp drop in mercury, from 40.4 Degree Celsius yesterday and the season's highest of 42.4 Degree C during the weekend, brought further respite for the people of the city from the scorching heat that has been sweeping Delhi since last week.

Weathermen attribute the duststorms and thunderstorms in Delhi to the strong wave of Easterly winds over Indo-Gangetic plains.

The coming days could bring more relief for Delhiites with the weathermen forecasting a further drop in day temperatures over Delhi and other parts of Northwest India during the next two to three days due to influence of the duststorms and thunderstorms caused by the Easterlies.

''Duststorms or thunderstorms are likely over Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh during the next two to three days. Consequently, the day temperatures over Northwest India are expected to fall further giving some more respite from the prevailing hot weather conditions over the region,''the weather office said.

The met office has forecast a mainly clear sky in Delhi likely to become partly cloudy during the next 24 hours with the possibility of duststorms or thundershowers by evenings.

They have also forecast drop in maximum temperature in Delhi to 38 degrees C tomorrow.

The relief from heat wave is, however, expected to be temporary with the weather office forecasting a rise in day temperature towards the weekend.

Delhi has been reeling under a severe heat wave over the last week with the mercury rising to the season's highest of 42.4 Degree C on Saturday.
