Prisoners revolt in MP

Shahdol, MP, May 1 (UNI) Inmates of the district jail here revolted against the administration and took over its control for few hours yesterday after holding three guards hostage.

The agitated prisoners, who had threatened to blow up the jail by placing cooking gas cylinders at the main gate, later surrendered in the night on the persuasion by senior police and jail officials.

The simmering discontent among the prisoners exploded with an inmate Narendra Shukla assaulting jail guard Dinesh Singh following an altercation. Later, the prisoners joined together and closed the main gate.

The injured guard was hospitalised, police said.
