Tiruchirapalli, May 1 (UNI) The CPI(M) today urged the Centre to pressurise the Sri Lankan Government to hold peace talks with the LTTE in the wake of recent aerial attacks by them.

Addressing a press conference here, Party State Secretary Varadarajan said the CPM had since 1983, when the ethnic violence broke out in the island nation, been demanding a separate nation for the Tamils but resorting to armed struggle would not solve the decade-old problem.

The CPI-M appealed to other countries, particularly India to pressurise the Sri Lankan government and the LTTE to hold talks to settle the issue, he added.

Asked about Marumalarchi DMK leader Vaiko is pro-LTTE remarks, Mr Varadarajan said Vaiko's remarks on the LTTE were wrong and could not be accepted.

It was up to the Union government to take action against him, he added.
