Police lathicharge MMK members

Chidambaram, May 1 (UNI) Police today resorted to a lathicharge to disperse volunteers of the Muvendar Munnetra Kazhagam (MMK) who put up a road blockade near the Chidambaram Bus Stand to protest the arrest of Sridhar Vandayar, leader of the Kazhagam.

About 450 persons entered the bus stand. The police warned them not to resort to any agitation. However, ignoring the warning they put up the road blockade forcing the police to swing into action. As the agitators ran away, police arrested about 50 persons.

Tenion prevailed in the area due to the lathicharge.
