Man gets lifer for kidnapping, murdering 8-month girl

Kolhapur, May 1: A youth was sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court for kidnapping and murdering a eight-month-old girl in 2004.

According to prosecution, Sandeep Haridas Mankar (33), resident of Shukrawar Peth here, entered the house of Geetanjali Jadhav on August 14, 2004, and after beat her up, escaped with ornaments and cash. He also took away the victim's daughter Neha along with him.

Two days later Neha's dead body was found in Sindhudurg district.

Mankar was subsequently arrested.

A total of 36 persons were examined as witnesses in the case. The court, considering the evidence before it, convicted Mankar and awarded the life sentence.
