Magistrate stabbed by advocate

Gwalior, May 1 (UNI) Additional District Magistrate R N Gupta suffered serious injuries as he was attacked by a lawyer with sharp-edged weapons at the District Collectorate premises here today.

The attacker, identified as Manoj Sharma, was arrested, police said, adding old enemity seemed to be reason for the attack. Earlier also, Mr Gupta was attacked by Manoj Sharma while being posted as Sub-Divisional Magistrate.

Mr Gupta was immediately shifted to the Jayarogya hospital, where he was being operated upon, Additional Superintendent of Police Atul Singh said.

The attack was made when Mr Gupta and other officials were engaged in chorus singing of national song 'Vande Mataram'. During the BJP regime, it was made compulsory for recitation of the national song at the state Secretariats and the District Collectorates at the start of office hours on the first working day of every month.
