J'khand govt for labour law in industries

Ranchi, May 1 (UNI) Several trade unions and left parties took out separate processions hoisting party flags and held rallies to mark the ''May Day'' celebrations in Jharkhand today.

Governor Syed Sibtey Razi, Chief Minister Madhu Koda and Labour Minister Bhanu Pratap Shahi in their respective messages on the occasion stressed the need of implementing labour law.

Mr Koda said his UPA government was committed to protecting the interest and welfare of the labourers in the state.

Mr Shahi urged the industrialists and investors to desist from employing child labourers.

In the state capital here, Indian Confederation of Labours led by state president Ajay Rai took out a procession by labourers of unorganised sectors from Ranchi University to Raj Bhavan. They handed over a memorandum to the governor.

Jharkhand Bihar Majdoor Union held a rally at Piska More here and organised a blood donation camp at Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS).

Besides, CPI (ML) and Jharkhand General Majdoor Union held a public meeting at downtown Elbert Ekka Chowk.

Reports from industrial towns like Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Palamu said the day was observed with lot of activities there.
