Jawan killed in encounter in north Kashmir

Baramulla, May 1 (UNI) A security force jawan was reportedly killed in a fierce encounter going on in the woods in the frontier district of Kupwara, official sources said.

They said security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint operation at Ramhal- Malmarg forest, about 25 km from Handwara early this morning following a tip off that some militants were hiding there.

However, when the security forces moved deep into the forest, militants opened fire. The fire was returned and the fierce clash was going on when reports last came in.

Reinforcement was rushed to the area from nearby camps, they said adding one security jawan was reportedly killed so far.
