India, Singapore discuss civil aviation ties

New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) Singapore's transport minister Raymond Lim today met minister for civil aviation Praful Patel to discuss civil aviation ties between the two countries.

Mr Patel said the number of flights between both countries has seen a tremendous growth. On open skies with the ASEAN, he said that airport infrastructure is one of the constraints in making Indian skies more open and liberalised.

India would also like to redefine air traffic pattern within the country which was till recently concentrated between Mumbai and Delhi, said Mr Patel. Opening up skies with the ASEAN is just a question of time, he added.

The working group meeting scheduled to be held this month-end will look into ways to carry forward the Indian Prime Minister's mandate in this regard.

The two ministers discussed various other major developments in the Indian civil aviation sector including airline mergers, growth of low cost carriers and how best to work together for further development of civil aviation relations between the two countries.
