Four arrested for smuggling 60kg charas for Nigerian

Ambala, May 1 (UNI) The Ambala Cantonment CIA Staff today arrested four people carrying 60 kg of charas from a Hotelier in Himachal to a Nigerian in Mumbai.

The charas with market value of Rs 60 lakh was being brought from a tourist resort owned by one Dev Raj near Manikaran of Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh, to be delivered at Bombay to a Nigerian. The smugglers were carrying the contraband in two bags containing 30 kg each.

The Superintendent of Police, Amitabh Dhillon told media persons here that the four persons nabbed at Ambala Cantonment Railway Station, were identified as Chaman Lal, Gautam and Meene Ram all residents of village Unchdhar (Kullu) while the fourth, Bhumi Chand belonged to Raskand.

He said they had been hired by Hotelier Dev Raj after he had met a Nigerian who had bargained with him for the consignment to be delivered at Mumbai. Dev Raj, he said, had introduced the four carriers to the Nigerian whom they were to deliver the bags.

The SP said that on receiving the tip-off, the Platform Number 3 from where the four were to board a train for Mumbai, was cordoned off today.

Mr Amitabh said that he had established contacts with his counterpart at Kullu and had dispatched a Police team to nab the main culprit hotel owner Dev Raj.

He said that the Bombay Police had also been alerted to locate the foreigners operating behind the scene. He said that the arrested persons had stated that they were paid Rs 30,000 as remuneration with Rs 1,000 as local charges for carrying the contraband.
