Engineer, doctor and an administrators in Vigilance net in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 1 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir State Vigilance Organisation (VO) arrested an Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) after he was caught red handed accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 from a contractor.

The VO also registered a case against the president Municipal Committee Sopore, the Executive Officer and the administrator and other officials for illegal allotment of shops. A challan was filed in the court against Dr Peer Shafeeq Ahmad for bungling Rs 34,041 against fictitious purchase of firewood.

A VO spokesman said that one Mushtaq Ahmad Burza, a contractor lodged a complaint about AEE, Ghulam Nabi Kirmani. He was allegedly a bribe for releasing payment against the work executed by him.

A trap was laid and the AEE was caught red handed while accepting a bribe amount of Rs 5,000 from the contractor. The bribe money was recovered from the engineer in presence of an independent witness.

Burza, who is president of the contractors association, said they will not pay any bribe to engineers for releasing their bills.

We will get them arrested by the VO, he declared and said the members of the association will extend all help to VO to removing the corrupt engineers and officers from the society.

The VO spokesman said the organisation has also registered a case against the officials of Municipal Committee, Sopore for illegal allotment of two shops and space in double storied shopping complex to some beneficiaries at price lower than market rates.

The VO spokesman said that the beneficiaries, Barkat Ali Dar, Abdul Ahad Dar and Ghulam Nabi Bhat were not among the shopkeepers displaced from Iqbal market Sopore, during road widening process.

The spokesman said the officials were found to have misused their official positions.
