Committee to review disaster preparedness
Hyderabad, May 01 (UNI) A meeting of the state-level high power standing committee on disaster preparedness was held under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary J Harinarayana.
The Chief Secretary reviewed the last meeting minutes, and discussed the preparedness to meet disasters.
The Commissioner for Disaster Management and Ex-officio Secretary to Government briefed on rain fall conditions in the state during 2006-2007.
Instructing the departments concerned to gear up the administration, Mr Harinarayana asked them to explain the preparatory steps taken up so far to deal with the possible cyclones and droughts in the ensuing months. The Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department has agreed to provide drinking water to the drought affected cities.
The Irrigation Department stated that sufficient material had been procured for flood banks and funds were also been sanctioned. Mr Harinarayana instructed the Irrigation Secretary to issue suitable instructions to Superintendent Engineers to tackle the issue.
