Blasts rock major cities in Bangladesh

Dhaka, May 1 (UNI) Crude bombs exploded at railway stations in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet today, leaving one person injured, police and witnesses said.

An Islamic militant outfit is suspected to have perpetrated the blasts to stop the activities of NGOs and the Quadiani Muslim community in Bangladesh.

Police said some leaflets containing their demands were found at Kamlapur railway station in Dhaka at the time of the blast at 0645 hours local time. The bomb at Sylhet station was exploded within half an hour at 0715 hours local time.

In the southeastern city of Chittagong, a home-made bomb was exploded at the main gate of the old railway station, leaving a rickshaw puller injured. He was admitted to a local hospital.

Police could not immediately confirm the name of the Islamic outfit.

On August 17, 2005 the banned Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) launched simultaneous bomb attacks in the country's 63 district headquarters to press for the establishment of Islamic laws in Bangladesh.

Recently, six top JMB leaders including its chief Sheikh Abdur Rahman and his second-in-command were hanged. Several hundred JMB militants are now in different jails.
