Banking, other services paralysed due to internet failure in Kashmir
Srinagar, May 1 (UNI) Banking and other related services were paralysed in the Kashmir valley due to total Internet failure since this morning.
Customers had to return disappointed from different branches of the State Bank of India (SBI) and other banks after they were told that the internet was down.
A Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) official when contacted admitted that there is some problem in the internet. However, he refused to give details about the exact nature of the fault.
''I have come from down town to withdraw the cash from the SBI but was refused by the bank officials,'' Abdul Aziz a customer said.
He said the banks were also refusing to accept drafts and other cheques or give cash against cheques.
A bank official said almost all the banks are connected with each other and outside banks through internet.
''The system is down we cannot help it,'' he said adding, '' as soon as the system will restore we will resume normal banking.'' Till 1400 hours the system was down, he said.
The BSNL official said repair work was going on to restore the system as soon as possible.
The failure of the internet also affected the operations of two national news agencies and other newspapers.
