Agitating inmates at MP jail surrender at MP jail
Shahdol, MP, May 1 (UNI) The situation at the District Jail was today under control as the inmates surrendered the LPG cylinders used by them to gain control of the main gate and threaten to blow up the prison after a dispute.
''Inmate Narendra Shukla yesterday assaulted Constable Dinesh Singh who had to be admitted to the District Hospital. Later, inmates bolted the gate from inside, placed the cylinders and held three constables hostage,'' said Superintendent of Police L C Bharatiya.
After negotiation by the district administration and police, the main gate was opened late last night and ten cylinders surrendered to the jail authorities. However, another group led by one Naresh Kol continued to control a couple of rooms and two cylinders. The group was complaining about the prison's food quality, inadequate medicare, assault of visiting relatives and bribery.
Further negotiation followed and Kol surrendered this afternoon.
A search of the jail led to seizing of eleven cellphones, ten lathis and three sacks of empty liquor bottles. Unconfirmed reports suggest the supply of liquor lay at the root of yesterday's dispute.
