Addl DM stabbed by advocate in MP

Gwalior, May 1 (UNI) An additional district magistrate and his security guard were assaulted today by an advocate in the Collectorate premises here, due to festering enmity, police said.

About two years back, the accused Manoj Sharma allegedly furnished a document and managed to have former Premier Atal Bihari Vajpayee's ''death certificate'' issued. Sharma even tried his electoral fortune as an independent at the recent Gwalior Lok Sabha constituency bypoll.

Addl DM R N Gupta was severely injured after being targeted from behind by the accused who used a stabbing weapon and also got hurt in the process. Mr Gupta was admitted to an ICU and underwent surgery. The guard was identified as Ashok Rathore.

The attack took place while the National Song 'Vande Mataram' was being rendered as is the practice on the first day of every month.

Sharma, who beat up Mr Gupta while the latter was Sub-Divisional Officer, was arrested.
