Nagpur, May 1 (UNI) Three persons were crushed to death by a private passenger bus while they were crossing the road in neighbouring Buldhana district.

According to the police, Nagorao Rajaram Wakekar (40) and Gajanan Bawaskar (55) -- both residents of Shirajgaon in Buldhana district, and Sheshrao Namdeo Chincholkar (65) from Waghzadi in Akola district, had only alighted from a state transport bus when the private bus ran over them near Lasura Phata, about 55 kilometres from Buldhana, late last evening.

Bawaskar and Chincholkar died on the spot, while Wakekar succumbed to his wounds while undergoing treatment at a hospital in nearby Khamgaon, the police said.

The driver of the bus fled from the spot along with the vehicle after the accident. Later, a mob stopped the vehicle in Khamgaon and pelted stones at it before getting hold of the driver, identified only as Turebhai. He was later handed over to the police.

Wakekar, Bawaskar and Chincholkar were returning to Shirajgaon after purchasing clothes for an upcoming wedding. Wakekar's daughter Nanda was to get married to Bawaskar's son Subhash on May 14, the police said.
