Villages in Kerala to have web portals
Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 30 (UNI) Kerala is all set for yet another IT revolution with the launch of UNESCO-supported project to establish panchayat-level web portals with people's participation.
As per the scheme, being implemented by Kerala's ambitious e-literacy campaign, the Akshaya, Gram Panchayats would soon have their own custom made web portals with all the information relating to the Panchayats in Malayalam.
A pilot project, fully funded by the UNESCO, has been launched in selected panchayats in Kannur and North Kerala and it would be extended to other parts of the state soon, Akshaya Director T K Manzoor said here today.
The Panchayats that would get their own web portals initially are Azheekode, Pinarayi, Muzhappilangadi, Eramam, Kuttor, Pappinissery, Sreekantapuram, Payam, Maloor and Vengad. Besides them, the Thalassery Municipality and the Kannur District Panchayat would also get their own web portal as part of the pilot project.
The web portals would function from the Akshaya Centre in each area. The portals of each Panchayat would feature the local history, information about prominent individuals, organisations, institutions and places of special interest in the area, services provided by the Local Self Government Institution, farm information, list of enterprises and the products manufactured by them, employement opportunities available in the locality, information on availabilty of labour and local programmes. There would be periodic updates and newsletters on new trends in information technology.
