Anand, Apr 30 (UNI) A truck carrying a consignment of 'gutkha', worth Rs 10.40 lakh, was robbed on its way from Ahmedabad to Nazer village in south Gujarat on National Highway number 8.

A FIR filed by the owner of the truck Hardipsingh Gurucharansingh Bhatia at Vasad police station on April 29, said ''The Eizer truck was worth Rs 4.5 lakh and the total theft was of Rs 14.90 lakh.'' The truck, driven by Dilipsinh Himmatsinh Rana, was on its way from Ahmedabad to Nazer village in south Gujarat with a consignment of 'Vimal gutkha' in 110 boxes, when a car overtook the vehicle on Saturday. Five men aged, between 25 to 30, with their mouth covered, dragged the driver out and put him in the car. The driver was dropped at Shimlagi village on the Vasad Borsad road, who later reported the matter at Ahemdabad, Mr Bhatia said.

However, police said the owner of the Eizer truck was a victim of highway robbery twice before and added that they are looking into why the complaint was lodged so late after 24 hours and what connection, if any, does the earlier two robberies have to the present one.
