Itanagar, Apr 30 (UNI) Tezu, the disaster-torn district headquarters of Lohit district in Arunachal Pradesh, is prepared to face any vagaries of nature.

Every year the township and its adjoining areas were badly affected by severe flood coupled with landslides especially, during the monsoons, causing enormous loss of life and livestock besides properties.

The state administration is making joint initiatives with the Army, Border Road Organisation (BRO), ITBP, state investigation bureau, NGOs and Panchayat leaders to tune up the disaster management of the area.

Lohit district Deputy Commissioner P S Lokhande said, ''Past experiences stand as witness to the fact that Lohit is vulnerable to flood and we are taking steps to deal with it before the onset of the monsoon.'' Insisting on the disaster management plan, he informed that the control rooms will be manned round the clock.

He had also asked to prepare a database list of the volunteers who would be working during the crisis period.

A technical committee consisting of all technocrats has been formed to identify the vulnerable areas before the on-set of monsoon.

''Contingency plans are to be prepared by May 15 next and the medical department had been asked about their medical requirements,'' Mr Lokhande stated.
