TDP oppose proposed Godavari diversion project
Hyderabad, Apr 30 (UNI) The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) would oppose the proposed diversion of the Godavari waters from Dummagudam to the tailend pond of the Nagarjunasagar which would harm the Telangana region.
Addressing a press conference here today, senior TDP leaders T Devender Goud and K Srihari alleged that the state government was trying to harm Telangana Region by taking 140 tmc of Godavari waters without completing the Chevella, Pranahita and Devadula projects in the region.
They said the government proposed to give administrative sanction for the project.
They said the TDP would organise an agitation if the government goes ahead with the proposed project. The Telangana region was suffering a lot due to illegal construction of Babli and ten other projects on Godavari river by the Maharashtra government.
The party leaders said the babli project was not related to capacity of the water as it was proposed to take away the water from the Sriram Sagar project.
They alleged that the government had completed the Pothireddy Padu project on a war footing to divert the Krishna water to Rayalaseema, not thinking about the projects in Telangana Region.
They said the TDP would not tolerate if any injustice was done to the Telangana Region and demanded allocated Godavari waters to the region. They alleged that the state government was trying to create problems and misunderstandings between the districts.
