Chennai, Apr 30 (UNI) Sakthi Sugars Limited's Rs 120 crore new sugar plant at Erode will be commissioned next month, Sakthi Group Chairman N Mahalingam said today.

Addressing a press conference here in connection with Sakthi Auto acquiring German-based Intermet Europe here, he said the 3,500 tonne capacity plant would have cogeneration facility.

Apart from investing Rs 120 crore in the new plant, the group had decided to expand its existing facilities in Sakthi Nagar (8,000 tonne), Sivaganga (4,000 tonne), Orissa (1,500 tonne) and Karnataka (4,000 tonne) at a total investment of Rs 180 crore.

There was no question of closing down the sugar plants as there was a huge demand for ethanol, the alternative fuel, in the coming years, he added.
