Probe sought into mysterious death of student
Shimla, April 30 (UNI) A senior professor in the Journalism and Mass Communication Department of the Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) today demanded a probe into the mysterious death of his daughter Deepti Alok at M S Panwar Institute of Mass Communication at Solan.
The institute, in order to save its academic reputation, termed it a suicide, while the Solan police, which was hand-in-glove with the institute's chairman, did not conduct investigations into the death, Prof Alok said in a release here.
Deepti's body was found hanging from the ceiling of her room in the institute's hostel more than a year ago.
''Despite repeated pleas to the Solan SP for conducting an impartial inquiry into my daughter's death, neither an FIR had been lodged against the institute nor any investigations conducted into the matter,'' Prof Alok said.
He said he has even complained to state Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh against the attitude of the Solan Police and demanded a probe into the suicide, which he termed as plain murder.
