PGIMS to have Pharmacy Degree College

Rohtak, Apr 30 (UNI) The first government Pharmacy Degree College in Haryana will be established at the state's premier medical institute of Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science (PGIMS), Rohtak.

According to PGIMS Director Prof S S Sangwan, the institute's Department of Pharmacy would be upgraded to a full-fledged independent college of pharmacy with 'state-of-the-art' facilities.

A team of two senior faculty members of the Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU)-- Prof A K Madan, Dean, faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Dr S K Gakhar, Professor in the Advanced Centre for Biotechnology (ACBT)--visited the PGIMS Department of Pharmacy for inspection to examine the viability of Bachelor of Pharmacy (B Pharma) course and its affiliation to the MDU with effect from the academic session 2007-08, Prof Sangwan said.

He said it would be the first government pharmacy degree college in the state.

The PGIMS Director said there would be no tuition fee for girl students in the new college of pharmacy and the male students would have to pay only 1,000 rupees per year.

''The pharmacy degreee college will be another feather in the cap of the most prestigious medical institute of North India for its transition to the 'centre of excellence'', PGIMS public relations officer (PRO) Dr N K Magu said.

He said the PGIMS was getting ready to admit students for the first batch in B Pharma course for the session 2007-08.
