People beat up cops mistaking them as 'rowdies'

Mysore, Apr 30 (UNI) Five policemen were injured when a group of people beat them up when they tried to apprehend an accused at Pandavapura railway station in the neighbouring Mandya district near here last night.

Police said the five cops, three from Bangalore and two from Mandya wearing civil dress, had come to the town to nab a criminal allegedly involved in a theft case. When they tried to apprehend him, the bystanders mistook the cops for 'rowdies' and beat them up.

The injured policemen were admitted to a private hospital in the city.
