Orissa enforces ESMA, Prohibits strike in Petroleum carrier

Bhubaneswar, Apr 30 (UNI) The Orissa government today enforced the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA), prohibiting strike in the transportation of petroleum products for the next six months.

A notification issued by the State Home Department said the government in public interest felt it was necessary to prohibit strike by any person or organisation in any service connected with the transportation of petroleum products in the state.

Since the strike by the transporters would lead to disruption in the supply of petrol, diesel and LPG in the state, the government under Orissa Essential Services Maintenance Act-1988 under sub-section 1 of section 3, prohibited any strike on the trasnportation of petroleum products for the next six months effecting from today, it added.
