New minimum wages for workers in Orissa
Bhubaneswar, Apr 30 (UNI) The Orissa government today announced a hike in the minimum wages for all types of workers to be effective from tomorrow in the state.
State Labour and Employment Minister Jaya Narayan Mishra told newsmen here that the minimum wages for unskilled labour has been enhanced from Rs 50 to Rs 70 while that of semi skilled labour raised from Rs 60 to Rs 80.
Mr Mishra said the skilled labourers will now be paid Rs 90 instead of Rs 70 and for the highly skilled labourers, the rate has been revised from Rs 80 to Rs 100.
The Minister said the new rate effective from May one will be applicable to nearly 1,42,76,439 work force in the state of which 95,89,269 are in the organised sector.
The last revision of the minimum wages for the workers in the state was implemented in 2002.
