Minister assumes charge

Hyderabad, Apr 30 (UNI) Newly inducted Minor Irrigation Minister M Venkateswara Rao alias Babu assumed charge at the Secretariat here today.

Signing the first file sanctioning desilting of the irrigation tank in Ayodhyapuram village in Warangal District at a cost of Rs 38 lakh, he thanked Party President Sonia Gandhi, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh for reposing faith in him.

Committed to ameliorate the sufferings of peasants, the farmer-friendly government would take up repairing of much-neglected irrigation tanks in a big way, he promised.

Dr Reddy had sanctioned Rs 100 crore for desilting and deepening of 1412 tanks in West Godavari district, he added.
