MC Chairman escapes bid on life, CRPF jawan injured in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 30 (UNI) The Chairman of the Municipal Committee (MC) at the Ganderbal district escaped unhurt in a militant attack on his house, while a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was injured in a hand grenade blast in north Kashmir overnight.

Besides, a guide, active for the past 10 years in taking youths to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) for receiving arms training, surrendered while one militant was arrested and three hideouts were busted in the Jammu and Kashmir since last night, an official spokesman said.

He said militants hurled a hand grenade towards the house of Ghulam Mohammad Lone, MC Chairman, at Bamloora in Ganderbal last night.

However, it exploded on the rooftop of his guard's room, causing injuries to Mr Lone's -- who is also zonal president of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-- Special Police Officer (SPO) Abdul Rashid.

The militants later managed to escape before security forces could reach there.

In another incident, the spokesman said, militants threw a hand grenade on the Road Opening Party (ROP) of 176 battalion of the CRPF near crowded Kunzer market on the Srinagar-Gulmarg road this afternoon.

It exploded on the roadside and injured a jawan who has been admitted to a base hospital here.

A man working as a guide and helper to infiltrate and exfiltrate militants, surrendered before the Bandipora Police today after returning from PoK.

Another militant was arrested by security forces at Bankote in Bandipora.

Security forces busted three hideouts at Qazigund, Bijal Dahara Jabla and Mankote and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including four pistols, one sniper rifle, three wireless sets, four detonators, two UBGLs, six hand grenades, 500 grams of explosives, one RPG shell, Rs 23,500 and about 1000 rounds of ammunition.

However, no one was arrested.
