Fatehabad, Apr 30 (UNI) District authorities today demolished over two dozen houses in an unauthorized colony on the Chandigarh road at Tohana in this district after getting them vacated.

The authorities also razed half a dozen showrooms built in the colony, named New Gupta Colony.

A team of officials led by SDM Tohana R K Garg with a strong contingent of police, swooped upon the colony early this morning and sealed the colony from both sides before starting the operation.

The authorities had made an attempt to demolish the houses last Monday, but had to return empty handed as the residents resisted their move.

The police had registered a case against 60 persons, including the coloniser Krishan Prabhakar.

Authorities said that the action had been taken to comply with an order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in a case regarding this colony pending before it.

The next date of hearing in this case in the High Court is May 3, 2007 and the authorities wanted to complete their action before the date.
