IBM announces five new innovations

Bangalore, Apr 30 (UNI) IBM unveiled its new innovations IBM Next Five in Five, the emerging technologies from its labs worldwide that could "transform lives over the next five years." Daniel Dias, Director of IBM's India Research Laboratory said in a press release here today, "Our researchers are focused on the application of technologies in ways that matter to people, business and society." Explaining, he said people with chronic health problems such as diabetes, heart, kidney or circulatory problems would be able to have their conditions automatically monitored as they go about their daily lives. Hardware and software advances in the field of remote-control healthcare would be a major source of consumer and enterprise innovation by 2012, he said in a press release here today.

Real-time translation technologies and services would be embedded into mobile phones, handheld devices and cars, which would help eliminate the language barrier.

The 3-D Internet would enable new kinds of education, remote medicine and consumer experiences, transforming to interact with our friends, family, doctors, teachers, favorite stores, and more.

Dr Dias said new technologies would also address areas of environmental importance which already had a major impact on microprocessors, making electronic products like PCs and mobile phones smaller, better and cheaper.

"In future, nanotechnology would likely be used for water filtration to address the growing worldwide shortage of potable water supplies," he added.
