HSD tanker catches fire, Fire and Rescue deptt acts wise
Chennai, Apr 30 (UNI) Three people received severe burn injuries today when a tanker lorry laden with 20,000 litres of High Speed Diesel (HSD) caught fire at suburban Madhavaram here today.
However, the timely action of Fire and Rescue department personnel averted a major accident.
Police said the lorry was on its way to Sriperambudur from Manali IOC depot when the crew noticed a leak in the tanker as it approached Madhavaram.
The crew went to a near-by welding shop, where the welder Sukumar (51) with the help of lorry driver Velmurugan (28) and cleaner Purushothaman (31) sitting on the top of the tanker, attempted to plug the leakage by a gas weld.
In the process the tanker caught fire severly burning the trio, who were admitted to a private hospital.
