HP Consumer Commission settles 12,259 cases

Shimla, Apr 30 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission had disposed off 12,259 cases out of a total of 13,068 cases received up to March 31, this year, an official spokesman today said.

Similarly, out of a total of 44,154 cases brought before the district forums, 41,186 cases were disposed off with an overall disposal rate of 93 per cent, he said in a release here.

The spokesman said during the previous year the state Commission decided 2,085 cases and received 1,794 fresh cases, while the district forums disposed off 1,961 cases while 2,079 fresh cases were registered during the period.

The Centre has released a grant of Rs 1.61 crore to the state government this year for strengthening consumer forum infrastructure under the Integrated Project on Consumer Protection, he said.

He said the amount would only be utilized for construction of new district forum buildings and office equipment, library and court furniture.

The Centre is also implementing the Confonet Project through NIC for computerization and networking of consumer forums, he said and added that necessary hardware has been supplied and installed at all the existing district forums and in the state Commission.

The computerization of consumer forums would ensure transparency, and efficiency besides ensuring time bound justice to the consumers, he added.
