New Delhi, Apr 30 (UNI) The Global Council of Indian Christians today expressed shock over the ''unprovoked'' attack on Pastor Walter Masiha in Rajasthan and demanded a CBI inquiry to nab those responsible for the attack.

''The hate and anger is visible in the attack and we are concerned that the police and administration ignored this attack though it happened near the high security areas of Jaipur near the Chief Minister's house,'' GCIC President Sajan George said in a statement here.

Stating that the savage attack on the 42-year-old pastor in Jaipur yesterday was a matter of serious concern, he said that the silence of Central Government and National Commission for Minorities was intriguing. ''All attacks, numbering 288 in the past 15 months, have been treated very casually,'' he said.

Pointing out that hate mongering would beget more hate, he said that this was the time to stop the ''savages'' for ever. GCIC urged CBI to launch a search for the ''hide out of the private militia operating under the guise of Sangh Parivar.'' Pastor Walter was in his house after Sunday worship, nursing his seven year old daughter Hebzebha who was suffering from a severe bout of fever. At first, two boys came and asked Pastor whether he could tell them more about Jesus as they are seekers of truth.

As the Pastor started talking to them, suddenly about 25 youngsters joined them and started beating the priest, injuring him severely. The attack went on for about an hour in the presence of large number of onlookers No one dared to came to help and even the police and state administration ignored the onslaught on the innocent Pastor, Mr George said.

The perpetrators also misbehaved with Mrs Joyce, the wife of Pastor.
