Four Science Museums to get V-sat link by June

Bangalore, Apr 30 (UNI) Four Science Museums in the country will be provided with V-Sat link by June to enable children to interact and learn more about Science, National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) Director General Ingit Mukherjee said today.

''V-Sat link to Science Museums would be provided at Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Delhi. The facility would be extended to other museums in due course,'' he told newspersons.

He said besides providing V-Sat links, a fleet of mobile links were also being provided to spread the knowledge of Science.

Already four such Mobile Science Centres were functioning and this number would be increased to 22 during the 11th Plan period.

Stating that eight new projects were on hand and six more in the pipeline, Mr Mukherjee said in memory of Indian born Astronomer Kalpana Chawla, a Planetarium would be set up in her birth place Kurukshetra in Haryana. Two more Science Museums would be set up shortly in Dharwad, in Karnataka and Sholapur in Maharashtra.

He said the NCSM had set up 27 Science Museums in the country that were running on their own. Eleven more were developed and handed over to state departments for maintenance.

New science museums were also coming up in Port Blair, Ranchi, Raipur and Nepal, he added.
