Five people arrested for attack on Christain cleric

Jaipur, Apr 30 (UNI) Five people were arrested here today in connection with the daylight attack on a Christian cleric, who was allegedly indulging in religious conversions.

The police identified the five arrested as Mukesh Singh and Ganesh Singh, two brothers hailing from Sudarshanpura locality, Pratap Singh, Vimal and Suresh who belong to Bhojpura Kacchi basti.

The police were investigating whether these activists belonged to Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), which has, however, denied the allegation.

Yesterday afternoon, at least 10 to 12 masked young men allegedly enterd cleric Proster Walter Masih's residence in Sodala locality pretext of joining the prayer service and instead thrashed him mercilessly.

Ironically, a TV channel along with cameraman and reporter directly telecast the ghastly incident on the channel.

The police reached the spot after viewing it on the channel.

The Christian community is enraged terming it as an attack on the freedom of religion and has condemned the assault as targeting the entire community.

Father Vijay Pal, joint secretary, Jaipur Christian Fellowship alleged that the role of police was suspicious as it reached the spot two hours late.
