Farmers in Wayanad to hold protest

Kalpetta, Kerala, Apr 30 (UNI) About 1,000 farmers will hold demonstrations in this hilly district next month against the government's 'apathy' towards the agriculture sector.

The farmers would hold demeonstrations in front of the district collectorate on May 16 and 17, the District Farmers Action Committee said.

The agitation had been called to demand writing off the debts of farmers, provision of interest-free credit facility for re-cultivation, storage of agriculture products under government monopoly, reasonable prices for agriculture products and stopping imports of agriculture products.

A group of painters and writers would also express solidarity with the agitators.
